Sitting just due south of Fort Worth, Burleson, TX is a suburb of less than 50,000 that’s close to the DFW Metroplex. It’s also the hometown of musician and talk show host Kelly Clarkson. As one of Texas’ more oddly shaped cities, it’s a place with friendly people, great schools, and a strong sense of community we love. Even with its small-town feel, Burleson has plenty of amenities, including an H-E-B Plus! store.
Burleson strikes the perfect balance between the rural community, a tight-knit suburb, and a vibrant, bustling big city, with DFW next door. It’s not too big or too small, cleaner, and safer than bigger areas. We have both big-name shopping and restaurants and small, family-owned local businesses offering a wide range of options.
Our city is ideal for newlyweds and young families looking for a place to settle down and raise a family. As great as it is to be here, you can still get to the Fort Worth area via I-35 or the new Chisolm Trail Parkway.
Burleson’s Popularity
It’s hard to imagine that this city was once a railroad depot, but it was. What’s now known as “Old Town Burleson” was once the midway depot for The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad, called “the Katy”, when the railroad extended its line from Denison to Waco. The land and the surrounding town were purchased by Grenville M. Dodge on behalf of the railroad and named “Burleson” for the president of Baylor University. Seller Reverend Henry C. Renfro named the town as part of the agreement. On October 10, 1880, Burleson began its journey into the #1 Best Place To Raise a Family in Johnson County.
Burleson is just 26 miles wide, but still one of the fastest-growing cities in the DFW area. People who live here love everything about Burleson (except maybe the increased traffic) and are proud to call it home. Affordability, diversity, and being family-oriented with excellent schools are just some of the reasons people love living here. The weather is mild compared to other cities in Texas like Houston, making it a comfortable choice for the twenty parks encompassing 550 miles.
Visitors and residents alike can enjoy Pirates’ Cove Fun Zone water park, North Texas Jellystone Park, and the various parks around the city with scheduled activities all year long. Check the City of Burleson’s own website and its social media pages to learn more, get updates, and find out more about why Burleson is a favorite Texas city.
Living, Working, And Education
Residents enjoy a cost of living that’s roughly 7% below the US average, making home buying more affordable. An educated workforce and available affordable land also make Burleson ideal for businesses looking to expand here. While the top employers here include Walmart, The City of Burleson, HEB, and Burleson ISD, residents looking for work may find what they’re looking for in the small business community as well.
Students attend schools in one of four independent school districts:
• Burleson
• Joshua
• Everman
• Mansfield
High school graduates who want to stay in Burleson have their choice of going to community college at Hill College’s local campus or a local campus of Texas Tech University at Hill College.
