History
The city sits in the northeast area of Tarrant County and was originally founded in the 1840s by the Peters County Settlers. Later, the Mount Gilead Baptist Church was established on July 13, 1850, and served as the only schoolhouse until 1910.
The wooded area in proximity to the Trinity River attracted more settlers to the land that was ideal for farming and cattle ranching. Once the railroad established a presence, the area became a trade center for the farming community, with a post office established in 1886 and the first postmaster, John H. Wallace.
Located near Double Springs, Keller was originally called Athol. After the extension of the Texas Pacific Railroad from Fort Worth to Texarkana with a stop in the city, it was renamed for railroad foreman John C. Keller. Later, US Highway 377 also brought more people into the area.
The City was finally incorporated in 1955. Today it is primarily a residential area and home to more than 45,000 residents.

In addition to the entire city of Keller, KISD also serves parts of the cities of Colleyville, Fort Worth, Haltom City, Hurst, North Richland Hills, Southlake, Watauga, and Westlake.
